This 50W class AB 6L6 based circuit is the amp that has defined what is most associated with “American Sound”. It is best known for its legendary sparkly and slightly scooped tone, which is instantly recognizable and also works really well with pedals. It gets a nice break-up without the help of pedals and it sounds brighter, smoother and a bit scooped compared to the “british tone” camp.
This is the amp that sets the bar for Clean Tone for all the others and for a good reason – it is hard to find anything that will do this job better. Though don’t let that overshadow its crunch capabilities. It is extremely versatile and will take you easily from shimmery pristine cleans to raunchy but smooth crunch.
This amp is also an exceptional and quite legendary tool as a pedal platform as and it delivers some amazing drive and lead tones with Overdrives. We also included some stacked overdrive captures featuring an original Silver Klon and vintage TS9 among other things.
It will even easily devour fuzz pedals and spit out a raunchy and usable tone akin to some of the wilder sounds created by Philip Sayce and other modern players.
Because all of the above this amp has been used in a wide array of genres: Blues, Rock, Jazz, Fusion, Alternative, Pop, P&W and more.
It has been used by an endless list of artists, some notable names of which would be: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mike Bloomfied, BB King, Muddy Waters, Robben Ford, Philip Sayce, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dereck Trucks, Ronnie Earl.
The amp was captured with its original 4X10 CTS speakers and mics used were the R121, M160 and a U87.
